1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Pecorino Foods LLC ("Pecorino," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our iOS application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using Pecorino, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. We do not store passwords—authentication is handled entirely through Google OAuth.

Profile & Preferences

You may provide dietary restrictions, favorite foods, default servings, temperature unit preferences, and personal notes to personalize your experience.

Household Information

If you create or join a household, we store the household name as well as the names and email addresses of members and pending invitations.

Recipes & Content

We store recipes you create or import, chat messages with the AI assistant, grocery lists, meal plans, and any notes you add.

Media

Photos and videos you upload (for example, to import a recipe from a photo or video) are stored so we can process and associate them with your recipes.

Usage Data

Our servers automatically record standard technical information such as your device type, IP address, and access times in server logs.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide the Service—generate recipes, personalize recommendations based on your preferences, and power features like grocery lists and meal plans.
  • Process through AI services—send your messages, preferences, recipes, and uploaded media to third-party AI providers to generate and improve recipes (see Section 4).
  • Transactional emails—send household invitations, account notifications, and other service-related messages.
  • Marketing emails—occasionally send product updates and announcements. You can unsubscribe from these at any time.
  • Monitor and improve—use error tracking, logging, and aggregated usage data to fix bugs and improve the Service.

We never sell or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or data-brokering purposes. Our revenue comes from subscriptions, not your data.

4. AI Services & Third-Party Processing

To generate and improve recipes, your messages, recipes, preferences, and uploaded media are processed by third-party AI providers. Our current provider is Google Gemini. We may add or change providers in the future and will update this policy accordingly.

  • Uploaded videos may be temporarily stored by Google for up to 48 hours for processing.
  • Recipe titles may be used to search for reference images when generating recipe photos.
  • If you connect Pecorino to third-party AI tools (for example, via the Model Context Protocol), those tools can access your recipes and preferences within the scope of the connection you authorize.
  • We do not use your data to train AI models. Third-party providers' own data practices are governed by their respective privacy policies.

5. Service Providers

We use the following service providers to operate the Service:

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)—hosting, file storage, and email delivery.
  • Google—authentication (Google Sign-In) and AI processing (Gemini).
  • Sentry—error monitoring. No personally identifiable information is sent to Sentry.
  • Axiom—log aggregation. Logs contain user identifiers for debugging but no personal details like names or email addresses.

6. Data Storage & Security

  • All data is stored in the United States.
  • Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AWS server-side encryption).
  • OAuth tokens are stored securely on your device using the iOS Keychain.
  • We do not store passwords—authentication is handled entirely through Google OAuth.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

Our marketing website (pecorinofoods.com) does not use cookies or tracking scripts.

Within the app, session cookies are used only during the OAuth authentication flow. The app also maintains local caches (recipes, images) on your device, which are cleared when you sign out.

8. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access your data—view your profile, recipes, and chat history directly in the app.
  • Delete your data—delete individual recipes, chats, or your entire account from within the app.
  • Account deletion—when you delete your account, all associated data—including uploaded media and audit records—is permanently removed within 30 days.
  • Unsubscribe—opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Device permissions—revoke camera, photo library, or notification permissions at any time through iOS Settings.

9. Data Retention

  • We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
  • You can delete individual items (recipes, chats) at any time.
  • On account deletion, all data is permanently removed within 30 days.
  • Server logs and error reports may be retained for up to 90 days for operational purposes.

10. Children's Privacy

Pecorino is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address below so we can delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
